2-Term Undergraduate Foundation Program - Life Sciences - Continue to - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Psychology of Child Development

The Undergraduate Foundation Program in Life Science program is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to a wide range of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Lancashire.

The Foundation portion of this program lasts one academic year (nine months). The year is divided into three terms of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week.

There are four academic pathways to choose from and candidates will study the pathway most suited to their chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specific subject area will be taught to fully prepare them for university study. The pathways are: Business, Economics, Finance and Management, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Life Sciences.

This is a course designed to help understand children’s thoughts, emotions and behaviour in scientific detail. The students will have the chance to develop skills and understanding in a superb setting – with specialised facilities for observing children playing and interacting with others, together with a cognitive neuroscience lab for observing their minds. There’s also the chance to go on a placement to assist with child-centred research. And, thanks to extensive links with schools and children’s services, students can focus on Educational Psychology – studying language development, literacy, peer relations, online safeguarding, antisocial behaviour and bullying.
