Что вы будете изучать

Это описание есть только на английском языке.

The BSc (Hons) Software Engineering with Foundation Year is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to design, develop, and manage complex software systems. The course emphasises practical experience with the models, techniques, and tools that underpin modern software development, while also addressing key professional considerations such as user needs, organisational contexts, cyber security, and computer ethics. It also explores emerging areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud-based data storage.

Students develop core competencies in programming, software design, data structures and algorithms, preparing them for a range of careers such as software engineer, applications developer, full stack developer, site reliability engineer, or game developer. The four-year programme includes a Foundation Year, which provides a broad preparatory curriculum for students who do not meet the direct entry requirements, with progression dependent on successfully passing all modules.

The course begins with foundational topics in computer science and software engineering, including programming, computer systems, data structures, algorithms, software processes, and requirements analysis. In later stages, students build on this knowledge through more advanced subjects such as software design, project management, and professional practice. In the final year, the focus shifts to specialised areas including user experience design, software testing and validation, artificial intelligence, and modern data systems. A strong emphasis on practical, laboratory-based learning and project work ensures students graduate with both technical expertise and transferable skills relevant to industry.

The course offers an optional professional placement year, providing students with the opportunity to spend a full year working with an employer after successfully completing their second year of study. This placement enables students to gain valuable industry experience, develop practical skills, and explore potential career paths, with some choosing to return to the same employer after graduation.

Students who wish to undertake a placement year are responsible for securing a suitable role relevant to their area of study, supported by the University’s extensive network of employers and dedicated Careers teams. Once a placement is secured, students can transfer onto the placement version of the course.
