Что вы будете изучать

Это описание есть только на английском языке.

This program builds upon the foundation of mental health established in pre-registration healthcare disciplines and examines current issues and trends in mental health in Canada. It emphasizes best practices in nursing and other health-care professions for providing optimal care to clients with diverse mental health disorders across the lifespan, while also addressing the legal and ethical dimensions of mental health care and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach. Learners benefit from access to the Co-Curricular Record program, which recognizes engagement, leadership, and co-curricular activities completed outside the classroom.

The program incorporates experiential learning with standardized patients and offers international students dedicated advisement and transition support through the International Division. In addition, students earn a Gentle Persuasive Approach certificate focused on caring for individuals with dementia and other cognitive conditions.

The graduate is able to discuss how mental-health care can be customized to individual clients by considering personal, historical, and culturally informed attitudes surrounding mental-health and substance-use challenges. They integrate specialized knowledge of pathophysiology, psychopharmacology, and contemporary interventions to plan appropriate mental health and addictions care.

The graduate establishes therapeutic relationships with clients to support goal development and achievement, and collaborates with inter-professional teams to ensure continuity of care across institutional, community, and homecare settings. They engage in ongoing reflection and self-directed learning to strengthen self-awareness, resilience, and self-care. The graduate provides leadership, mentorship, and coaching to reduce stigma and enhance the quality of nursing care for individuals experiencing mental-health and substance-use problems. They advocate for public education and for policy and legislative reform that advances mental health care and promotes positive public perception.

The graduate designs and adapts care plans that reflect each client’s unique and evolving context, resources, strengths, values, culture, and pathology, and applies evidence-informed assessment, screening, and care planning approaches to meet diverse needs. Finally, they determine therapeutic recommendations that balance an individual’s right to autonomy, safety, and privacy with the public’s right to safety, in alignment with federal and provincial legislation as well as employer policies and procedures.
