Master of Science - Advanced Practice - Podiatry

The MSc Advanced Practice is designed to support registered health and social care professionals in advancing their careers by enhancing clinical expertise, leadership capability, and research skills. As health and social care systems continue to integrate globally, there is a growing demand for practitioners with advanced qualifications who can respond to complex and evolving care needs.

This programme enables practitioners to build on their existing knowledge and apply it critically in areas such as clinical assessment, analytical thinking, and research. It places service users and carers at the centre of clinical practice, encouraging students to explore how their perspectives can inform policy, improve outcomes, and strengthen leadership and communication skills.

The course is available on a full-time basis, with a part-time option for UK-based professionals. Students can complete the MSc Advanced Practice as a general degree or choose from a range of specialist pathways, including Podiatry.

The Podiatry pathway is designed for podiatrists and registered healthcare professionals with an interest in foot and lower limb health. It provides advanced clinical knowledge and practical skills to assess, diagnose, and manage complex conditions affecting the foot and lower limb. Key areas of study include diagnostic investigations, medical imaging, and clinical biomechanics, with a focus on interpreting vascular assessments, laboratory findings, and imaging results to inform clinical decision-making.

Learning is delivered through a combination of expert-led online teaching and on-campus sessions, incorporating case-based discussions and hands-on analysis of human movement across a variety of contexts, including sport, occupational health, and long-term or age-related conditions. Students benefit from access to specialist facilities such as the Human Performance Lab, alongside flexible study options that support professional commitments.

The pathway is suited to clinicians working in, or aiming to progress into, advanced practice roles across primary and secondary care, including areas such as musculoskeletal health, vascular disease, rheumatology, and orthopaedics. As part of the programme, students achieve IR(ME)R certification, enabling them to refer patients for X-ray imaging in the UK and expand their clinical scope of practice.
