Master of Science - Medical Imaging

The MSc Medical Imaging is designed for qualified radiographers and healthcare professionals seeking to progress into enhanced or advanced practice roles. With a strong focus on industry-informed teaching and research-led learning, the programme prepares students to integrate advanced imaging technologies, contribute to policy development, and deliver high-quality care across healthcare systems in Scotland, the UK, and internationally.

Students can complete the degree as a general MSc or choose to specialise in one of four pathways: Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Artificial Intelligence, or Ultrasound. Each pathway is tailored to develop advanced technical expertise and critical decision-making skills within a specific area of imaging. The ultrasound pathway, which is CASE-accredited, is also open to other registered healthcare professionals entering sonography practice, although applicants must secure their own clinical placement and mentor.

The programme offers flexible study options to suit different professional needs. Full-time study provides an intensive one-year route for UK and international applicants with at least two years of post-qualification experience, while part-time study allows UK-based professionals to balance work and study over three to five years. The ultrasound pathway is available on a part-time basis only.

Teaching is delivered through a blend of lectures, workshops, seminars, and hands-on simulation, enabling students to develop and refine complex clinical skills in a safe and supportive environment. Access to state-of-the-art simulation facilities enhances practical learning before applying skills in real clinical settings.
