English Language Preparation + 2-Semester Pathway Pre-Masters - Business, Media and Social Sciences - Transfer to Master of Arts - Journalism and Documentary Practice

The English Language Preparation program is a chance to improve your English language skills before beginning your pathway program. This program will you develop the required language skills to be successful in your intended pathway and degree program. 1-Semester Pathway and 2-Semester Pathway pre-sessional English are available. 1-Semester Pathway Pre-sessional English requires Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0 overall (5.0 in all subskills) and 2-Semester Pathway Pre-sessional English requires Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.5 Overall (minimum 4.5 in all sub-skills).

This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex followed by entry into a university program offered at the University of Sussex. In the Pre-Master's programme, you will study courses related to your intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance your skills as a student. Advancement into your intended program depends upon the successful completion of the pathway program.

The Pre-Masters in Business, Media and Social Sciences, provides a route to a variety of postgraduate degrees at the University of Sussex. English language and career skills are combined with subject-specific modules such as social sciences, cultural studies, a variety of business skills like accounting and business management to provide you with a strong foundation for your chosen business, media and social sciences degree.

The Master of Arts in Journalism and Documentary Practice is for you if you have a passion for news, current affairs, documentary or any aspect of factual programme-making. It offers a practical training in, and critical engagement with, journalism and documentary-making.

This MA combines theory and practice. We focus on fast-changing developments in journalism and documentary practice. You’ll learn how to: • create informed and engaging journalism – for print or radio and tv (off or online) – to a professional standard

• develop your visual and verbal storytelling • research, shoot and edit documentaries about the topics that interest you most • project manage, schedule, budget and distribute your documentary work • contextualise your practice through critical study of current media developments.

We offer excellent technical facilities. These include a newsroom, the latest software, video and radio studios, and a suite of digital media laboratories.
