2-Semester Pathway - Pre-Master's Programme - Continue to Master of Science - Physics of Materials

The Level 6 Pre-Master’s Programme (PMP) is a two-semester programme, with guaranteed progression to a wide range of Master’s degrees at Loughborough University.

This Pre-Master’s Programme (PMP) is designed to prepare international students for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom. The PMP will allow them to improve their English while learning the study skills and research methods that they will need during their Master's degree studies. They will study academic modules relating to their chosen progression route. Each semester consists of thirteen teaching weeks, one reading week, and an assessment week. The weekly hours of study varies by semester with them on average studying around 18-21 (and up to 21) hours per week. Each module will have an assessment schedule, which will be completed by the end of the appropriate semester. Assessments will be designed to demonstrate learning across the individual modules of the programme and to allow them to experience a wide range of the assessment methods used in United Kingdom postgraduate programmes. Assessments will include coursework, essays, reports and other structured assignments, oral examination and unseen written examinations.

Master of Science - Physics of Materials: Over the course of the Master of Science - Physics of Materials programme, students will learn how to work with modern equipment and make an analysis of their own experimental and theoretical data, as well as applying modern physics methods to assess materials, examine properties of novel materials and develop the advanced theoretical and quantitative skills that are highly sought after by employers. This master's in material physics contains a combination of supervised research work, development of research skills and taught material. It is designed to equip them with the skills needed to make an impact in the wide variety of industries whose successes are driven by the development of new materials or to continue with their academic research.
