The MSc in International Finance and Investment is designed for students at the beginning of a career in finance. The programme aims to develop an integrated and critically informed understanding of international investment and finance, expanding career opportunities by combining knowledge from a previous degree with a specialised master’s qualification.
The programme develops the specialist skills required to apply finance and econometric theory in areas such as quantitative analysis, financial research, international financial markets and institutions, investment, derivatives and risk management. It also builds transferable skills relevant to employment in corporate finance, banking, financial markets, investment and quantitative finance research.
Assessment forms an integral part of the learning experience. Students have the opportunity to choose between a master’s dissertation, a Master’s Management Enquiry or a Business Clinic PG Group Consultancy Project focused on a genuine business challenge faced by a real organisation.
The programme is particularly suited to individuals with a passion for mathematics and quantitative finance who are seeking to build a rewarding career in financial research. Building on undergraduate studies in a quantitative subject such as economics, accounting or engineering, it provides a research-oriented approach to finance and investment.
Students explore specialist areas such as econometrics and forecasting, financial markets and institutions, and investment and risk management while developing advanced analytical and evaluative skills.
Extensive use is made of the Bloomberg trading suite, where Bloomberg terminals provide access to live data from financial markets around the world. This data is combined with advanced econometric software packages to construct econometric models for forecasting, developing trading strategies and examining the implications of policy decisions for financial markets.
The programme is regularly updated to reflect developments in the financial sector and is aligned with the CFA curriculum.
The knowledge and experience gained through the programme can support the development of a successful research career. Graduates may progress within academia by pursuing a PhD or seek positions in the international financial sector, including highly sought-after roles such as quantitative research analyst.
