The PhD Management program at the Colchester Campus provides students with the opportunity to explore issues related to the contemporary workplace and their connections to broader societal contexts, both locally and globally.
This program attracts a diverse cohort of students from various backgrounds and nationalities, each bringing a wide range of social science research interests. Current students include recent graduates from different disciplines as well as experienced practitioners, professionals, and policymakers. They investigate topics such as perceptions of luxury branding, the limitations of the business case for gender equality in the workplace, the effects of change programs within the NHS, and spatial technologies of control in the retail industry.
Students have the flexibility to tailor their research to a profession or sector of their choice and may opt to pursue research in one of several designated areas:
• human resource management • international management • consumer studies • marketing and brand management • work and organisation studies
They study at Essex Business School, the largest department at the University of Essex, located at the Colchester Campus. The business school has an international outlook, attracting doctoral students from around the world, and is committed to the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). The Management and Marketing Group consists of international researchers focused on understanding the role of the consumer, the value of the employee, and the significance of responsible management practices.
