The study of music includes the art of performing and listening to music, the history of music, music technology, the role of music in cultures, and methods of teaching music.

The major in music performance is part of the University's bachelor of music program. Music performance majors at WSU have five emphasis areas to choose from: • Woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings • Keyboard • Keyboard pedagogy • Voice • Jazz (flute, saxophone, trumpet, percussion, bass and voice)

Supplemental Pre-Professional tracks are available for students interested in pursuing further professional education.
