Doctor of General Engineering provides specialist study for graduates intending to work in research and development environments across a range of scientific and engineering disciplines. The program supports the development of advanced engineering knowledge, the application of engineering principles, and a strong commitment to quality practice. A member of academic staff with expertise in the chosen field is responsible for guiding and supporting the research program, and the research student becomes part of a thriving academic community.

The program is associated with the Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Communications (BiMEC), within the School of Engineering, which has a strong culture of research and enterprise. The Research Excellence Framework (REF) awarded 80% of LSBU’s research in General Engineering the two highest quality ratings, 4* or 3*, for impact in terms of reach and significance.

Research opportunities are available across several specialist centers and areas, including Advanced Materials, Big Data and Informatics, Biomedical and Communications, Energy and the Environment, Intelligent Monitoring and Asset Management, and Robotics.
