Foundation Program (Extended) (089917G) + Diploma of Communication (097893M) + Bachelor of Communication (109272D)

Program Description The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs. It aims to prepare students for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or for entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor degree.

The course consists of either a standard or extended track program. The standard track program consists of eight academic units: five core units and three elective units. The extended track program has an additional four units.

Various support services focusing on language, literacy and numeracy assistance are also available to help students in their studies. Each unit includes four hours of classes per week. Assessment for all units is continuous and includes tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most units have a final two-hour examination. To graduate from the Deakin College Foundation Program, students must complete and pass all eight units in the standard program or 12 units in the extended program.

The Diploma of Communication offers a wide range of unit choices that gives students a lot of flexibility when they are entering the second year of a relevant Deakin University degree. Areas of study include advertising, communications, journalism, digital media and public relations.

Deakin's Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations) combines internships and industry engagement to prepare them for exciting communication roles in agencies, not-for-profit, government and commercial organisations.

In this industry-accredited course, students will learn from academics who are active in their field, ensuring they gain the professional skills to conduct strategic and tactical communication research, planning, execution and evaluation. Students will boost their industry experience through sought-after internships or gain a global perspective of public relations with an international study experience.
