About the Trade and Construction Management program • Designed for working professionals, including skilled tradespeople and those transitioning into the industry, the Certificate in Trade and Construction Management (TCM) offers flexible, applied training that prepares students to lead teams, manage projects, and navigate the complexities of today’s construction environment.
Meeting industry demand in construction • Developed in collaboration with industry partners across British Columbia, this program responds directly to labour‑market needs and skills shortages. The BC Construction Association (BCCA) reports an active $158 billion in current construction projects and $172 billion in proposed projects, including major housing, infrastructure, and green building initiatives. This sustained pipeline will continue to drive demand for professionals with supervisory and management expertise. • Through a blend of leadership development, project planning, regulatory knowledge, procurement, sustainability, and hands‑on tools, this certificate equips learners to make informed decisions and succeed in dynamic work environments. The program addresses key industry‑identified competencies such as crew supervision, bidding and procurement, scheduling, budgeting, safety and regulatory compliance, quality assurance, sustainability, and the use of modern construction technologies.
Advance into construction leadership • These skills enable graduates to analyze and manage complex projects, motivate diverse teams, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure projects meet standards for efficiency, safety and sustainability. Graduates will be well positioned for supervisory roles such as construction supervisor, site manager, or field coordinator, but will also have the relevant skills to successfully manage their own small business. • Learners will engage with real‑world tools, simulations, case studies, and industry‑developed scenarios that reflect the challenges of supervisory and management roles. Project‑based assignments will build practical skills in scheduling, budgeting, and risk management using industry‑vetted processes, forms and data.
