The Welding Techniques program is designed for individuals seeking a challenging and rewarding career in welding and metal fabrication. The program prepares graduates to enter the workforce with a highly sought-after skill set through comprehensive training that combines theory and hands-on practice. Students develop advanced welding competencies through practical laboratory experience using modern equipment in a state-of-the-art facility. The curriculum includes instruction in creating and interpreting blueprints, as well as developing a thorough understanding of metals and their characteristics.
In addition to technical welding skills, the program emphasizes safe work practices and weld inspection methods. Instruction is delivered by experienced, Canadian Welding Bureau–qualified professionals who bring extensive industry knowledge to the learning environment. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to challenge Canadian Welding Bureau qualification tests based on their demonstrated level of competence.
The program also fulfills all learning outcomes for Level 1 of the Welder (456A) and Metal Fabricator (437A) common core, along with Level 2 welder apprenticeship requirements in Ontario. Graduates who register as apprentices in either trade may be eligible for exemption from the corresponding in-school apprenticeship training levels.
Career opportunities for graduates span a wide range of industries, including manufacturing and fabrication, automotive and heavy equipment production, automation, construction, and various trade unions. Self-employment is also a viable career pathway for program graduates. In addition, graduates entering a 456A Welder apprenticeship are eligible for exemption from Level 1 and Level 2 in-school training requirements.
Throughout the Welding Techniques program, students build a comprehensive skill set through hands-on laboratory training, exposure to advanced welding technologies, blueprint development and interpretation, and in-depth study of welding theory. The program ensures graduates are well prepared with both technical expertise and industry-recognized safety and inspection practices required for successful careers in welding and metal fabrication.
