The construction industry accounts for a significant proportion of the UK’s total carbon footprint, but responsible, innovative interior design can develop more sustainable solutions for new and existing buildings alike.
The Interior Design course examines strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation, exploring relevant theories and techniques within the discipline.
Interior designers and architects have a unique opportunity to work directly with clients, advising them of their environmental and social responsibility, to creatively design functional and sustainable spaces that cater for human experience and habitation.
The Interior Design course challenges students to create interior spaces that account for climate change and longevity, with a focus on design for occupant health and wellbeing, alongside the specification of environmentally sustainable products, materials and techniques.
This course in interior design will encourage students to engage with key theories and contemporary debates. This will foster their understanding of how these can influence the conception, development and communication of their ideas, which will impact upon the success of their future practice as an interior designer or architect.
If students are looking to deepen their knowledge and understanding of what it means to be a climate conscious interior designer, and/or extend and develop their sustainable design practice to support their future as a practitioner, researcher or academic, Interior Design at Cardiff Met is for them.
