The MMus Composition for Film and Television at the University of West London is designed in line with today’s creative industries and provides opportunities for students to develop both musical artistry and technological expertise. Students will experiment with orchestral scoring, digital sound design and original production projects, learning how to compose music that resonates across platforms and genres.
Students will work across cinematic styles, from drama and action to sci-fi and animation, developing skills in orchestration, audio and MIDI production and recording techniques. Teaching is delivered by award-winning composers with international experience across concerts, film, video games and theatre.
Alongside practical work, the course enables students to broaden scholarly knowledge in areas such as score analysis, conducting and interdisciplinary applications, supporting the development of a supervised Masters project that showcases their creative voice.
Throughout the course, students will share ideas, explore creative boundaries and learn within an industry-focused environment. Teaching is delivered through tutorials, workshops, seminars and lectures, with experienced staff guiding students and encouraging artistic experimentation.
Students will also benefit from the Composers’ Workshop programme, which offers opportunities to collaborate with leading composers, musicians and academics, alongside guest seminars and workshops that present new work and provide feedback on students’ compositions.
