Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) - Engineering - Energy and Environment

The Energy and Environment theme is a key research area within the Engineering postgraduate programmes (PhD), focusing on the development of sustainable and low-carbon technologies. The research aims to address global challenges related to energy demand, environmental impact, and climate change, supporting the transition towards more sustainable energy systems and practices.

This area of study explores the transformation, generation, and use of energy in ways that reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability. It aligns with broader policy and industry priorities, including significant targets for carbon reduction and the decarbonisation of power systems. The growing global market for low-carbon technologies also highlights the increasing economic and employment opportunities within this sector.

Research within this theme reflects a proactive response to these challenges, with engineers working to develop innovative solutions that support a more sustainable future. The programme provides students with the opportunity to contribute to advancements in energy technology while engaging with real-world environmental and industrial issues.
