The Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics at the University of Central Missouri is the first and only undergraduate bioinformatics major at a Missouri Public Institution of Higher Education. This innovative interdisciplinary program will prepare students to provide technical support for researchers in medicine, agriculture, and other biological fields.

In the Bioinformatics program, students will learn the knowledge and skills to help solve complex problems in medicine, agriculture, and biology. They will study a combination of computer science, biology, chemistry, and statistics.

• Biology and chemistry courses will improve their ability to understand the context of the problem being studied and communicate with the primary investigators to extract meaningful information from a raw data set. • Computing and statistics courses will provide them with the background to use technology to analyze and visualize large data sets, such as data from genomic studies of patients or population-based epidemiology.
