Designers translate the ideas and rough sketches of engineers into drawings to communicate specific details to other engineers, architects, drafters, technicians, and manufacturing. Drawings are used as a basis for further research and design, for manufacturing and construction, and for documenting the engineer's concept. Designers use computers, engineering practices, reference materials, and manufacturing processes, to create complete drawings, models and construction designs.
Those selecting this degree program will develop proficiency in drafting and computer-aided design. They will learn to prepare drawings for manufacturing, fabrication, and construction. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Drafting and design standards will be taught and reinforced as they prepare drawings in both 2D and 3D using AutoCAD, Solid works, Civil 3D, Revit, and Mastercam applications software. They will be trained to utilize software for the related industry.
Throughout this course of study, students will be learn to use sketches, notes, technical literature and personal research to complete assignments in a timely manner.
