This one-year taught MSc program in Marine and Coastal Ecology provides advanced knowledge and practical skills essential for making a significant impact in the field. The curriculum addresses the complexity of marine ecosystems and equips students to confront global challenges affecting coastal and marine environments. Throughout the course, students will engage with both local and international case studies, examining areas such as the Solway Firth, Morecambe Bay, and the Irish Sea, while also broadening their understanding to include regions like North America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific. Student enrolled in the Tropical Marine Ecology module will have the opportunity to undertake a seven-day international field trip to a tropical marine location. The program integrates essential theoretical instruction with experiential learning, preparing graduates for careers in marine conservation, resource management, environmental consultancy, or policy development. Core themes encompass marine ecology, fisheries management, pollution control, marine spatial planning, and research methodologies. Upon completion, students will be well-equipped for both professional and academic roles within the discipline of marine and coastal ecology.
