Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Business Management and Finance (with Foundation Year)

This course is offered as a degree with foundation year - a four-year programme which provides an additional foundation year at the beginning of the degree, that will give students academic and practical experience, as well as the skills they need to ensure they are equipped to successfully complete their chosen degree. During the foundation year, students will take modules in English and Maths which will develop their core academic and study skills. The syllabus includes a year-long module relevant to their chosen degree subject, such as Business Essentials. This will provide students with a subject specific knowledge in Business, which is essential for success in their degree.

On this degree, students will develop the key competencies required of financial managers. Students will choose to develop their specialist knowledge through modules in Global Financial Markets and Analysing Financial Performance. Gaining detailed knowledge of management and finance, students will become a confident, independent thinker, with the ability to analyse financial markets and predict financial performance. Students will explore corporate strategy, business ethics and business finance in depth, and develop a deeper understanding of how financial institutions and monetary systems operate. The academic staff have extensive experience of business and will support students to connect their learning to the realities of business, management and finance. An Academic Guidance Tutor will also be there to guide students' learning and career development, and students will have access to an extensive range of employability events. In preparation for their future career, students will develop many skills employers value, including the ability to identify and solve business problems, and to communicate their ideas with impact. This course offers all students the option of a one-year paid work placement, to boost their employability even further. If students choose this route, they will take the placement following year two of their course, and then return to complete their degree.
