Philosophy has played a central role in Western intellectual life for over 2,500 years. It is regarded as essential in our comprehension of the world and The University of Edinburgh interactions within it.

The discipline of philosophy offers the necessary tools to systematically and critically examine the underlying assumptions in all areas of intellectual and practical endeavors. Although philosophers have adopted various approaches, philosophy is characterized by its emphasis on: • The use of logical arguments

Situated in the first United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World City of Literature, individuals will have the opportunity to study in the oldest department of English Literature in the UK and one of the oldest in the world. This program will foster the development of critical, analytical, linguistic, and creative skills required for the close analysis and discussion of poetry, drama, and prose.
