The Global Contemporary Art MA is a practice-led programme designed to cultivate the professional, critical, and collaborative skills required for impactful, globally-aware, and socially responsible artistic and curatorial practices.

Recognising a fundamental shift in the vision and purpose of contemporary art within global and translocal contexts, the course is informed by the research of the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM). It prepares students to become mobile and dynamic professionals capable of developing artistic and curatorial practices that offer sustainable, critical, and imaginative responses to pressing global challenges.

The course is aimed at arts graduates seeking to further develop their practice, as well as professionals interested in exploring new opportunities for research-led initiatives and public engagement. Students advance their artistic and curatorial skills through hands-on activities that emphasise learning via real-world scenarios, organisations, platforms, and technologies.

Collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches are central to the course. Students are encouraged to experiment with diverse artistic and curatorial methods, and are supported in developing independent or collaborative projects across a variety of sites, contexts, and platforms. These projects are aligned with key research themes from Westminster School of Arts and its partners, such as sustainable ecosystems, alternative futures, and reclaiming collective identities.

A core component of the programme is the year-long Professional Practice module, which supports student progression beyond graduation through mentorship sessions, career-focused seminars, practical workshops, and additional development opportunities.
