The Undergraduate Foundation Program in Humanities and Social Sciences is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to a wide range of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Lancashire.

The Foundation portion of this program lasts one academic year (nine months). The year is divided into three terms of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week.

There are four academic pathways to choose from and candidates will study the pathway most suited to their chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specific subject area will be taught to fully prepare them for university study. The pathways are: Business, Economics, Finance and Management, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Life Sciences.

In this degree, learn how to apply scientific methods to measure, understand and explain; beliefs, decision-making and behaviour in a range of psychological settings. The students will begin by studying the core areas of psychology – from the science of memory and language to the biological basis of our behaviours and could explore issues like forensic psychology, clinical psychology, child development or neuropsychology. The students could even delve further into one area of the discipline, and transfer to one of our specialist degrees. Then, whatever their route, the students will work on a research project in your final year. It’s a psychology course shaped around the core syllabus of the professional body – the British Psychological Society (BPS).
