Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The degree prepares students for a career as a quantity surveyor, a role highly sought after for its combination of financial, business, and technical expertise. Featuring an optional foundation year, the programme provides a strong platform for academic and professional success. Upon completion of the foundation year, students progress onto a course accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES).
The curriculum equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific, technological, professional, legal, and management skills essential to quantity surveying. Developed in close collaboration with employers, the course is closely aligned with current industry practice. Students can also choose to take a work placement between stages two and three, gaining practical experience that enhances their skills and employability in preparation for a demanding and rewarding career in the construction industry.
The four-year degree programmes include an optional foundation year, designed to give students a head start in both academic and professional development. This initial year allows students to strengthen their skills, knowledge, and confidence with extensive support from experienced staff before progressing to the first stage of their honours degree. It is particularly beneficial for those considering a career change or looking to build a solid understanding of subjects that are new to them.
Degrees with a foundation year are continuous, meaning students do not need to reapply once they have successfully completed the first year
