Overview

If students are interested in a helping profession working with people, then they will be well-suited for a career in nursing. Not only do nurses provide physical care, but they also provide emotional support and counsel about health related issues. Registered nurses are instrumental in educating the public about various health conditions and healthcare advancements. Why choose TROY? As a graduate of the Troy University Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program, students will have the skills necessary to function as a registered nurse in a variety of healthcare settings. Students will possess the knowledge of specific aspects of the biological sciences, the humanities and nursing science required for nursing practice in both acute and long-term care settings. Both the professional core and the supporting liberal arts coursework in the ASN program contain courses designed to foster personal and professional responsibility, leadership, appreciation of the sciences, humanities and the environment, as well as an appreciation for the necessity of life-long learning. The ASN program is led by exceptionally educated and experienced faculty. Faculty members have many years of clinical experience and consistently work in the clinical area so that they can best prepare their students for clinical practice. Passage rates of Troy University ASN students on the NCLEX-RN, the Alabama Board of Nursing’s standard for all schools, consistently rank above 80 percent. The 5-semester program adequately prepares students to enter the nursing workforce immediately upon graduation. What Can You Do with an Associate of Science in Nursing? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 12 percent from 2018 to 2028. They report this growth will occur due to an increased emphasis on preventative care, an increasing number of chronic conditions and a greater demand for healthcare services from the aging population as they live longer and more active lives than previous generations. Registered nurses may be interested in the following areas:

• Addiction • Cardiovascular • Critical care • Genetics • Maternity care • Neonatology • Nephrology • Pediatrics • Psychiatry • Public health • Rehabilitation
