If students hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of Essex. Course length is determined mainly by students English language level (UKVI IELTS score).

Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If their course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.

Master of Science - Computer Games Both for entertainment and for more serious purposes such as virtual reality training, computer games, gamification and games intelligences are increasingly important in today’s world. This is the opportunity to turn a passion into a career.

At the University of Essex, they specialize in virtual worlds, machine learning, artificial intelligence and high-level games design and development. In this course, students develop both theoretical and practical knowledge of computer games. The flexible approach allows students to fill gaps in their knowledge and brush up on a variety of languages, making sure they’re ready to bring their designs to life.

Students explore topics including: game design, game AI, 3D games development, mobile app programming, and physics-based games.

Today’s computer scientists are creative people who are focused and committed, yet restless and experimental. Essex is home to many of the world’s top scientists, and their work is driven by creativity and imagination as well as technical excellence.

More than than two-thirds of Essex's research is rated ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent', and students have the opportunity to get involved with the School's PhD and staff researchers who work in the Games Intelligence research group.

Essex is one of the largest and best resourced computer science and electronic engineering schools in the UK. Their work is supported by extensive networked computer facilities and software aids, together with a wide range of test and instrumentation equipment.
