What you will study
This course is designed to keep pace with the fast-moving media industry, equipping students with the skills to become effective communicators across a range of multimedia platforms. It offers both theoretical and practical learning to ensure students are fully prepared for roles in the media sector.
Students will develop their multimedia skills through coursework and industry placements, gaining hands-on experience producing content for online and broadcast formats. The course includes exciting modules that cover key areas such as writing, podcasting, video production, and PR, providing a comprehensive skillset for the modern media landscape.
The programme is taught by experienced tutors who have worked for top organisations like the BBC, ITV News, and other major media outlets. Students will have the opportunity to learn from industry professionals, gain the latest insights, and build valuable industry contacts. Past experiences have included visits to the BBC’s flagship political programme Sunday, as well as participating in a Q&A with political journalist Laura Kuenssberg.
In the first year, the course provides an introductory overview of essential media and communications skills, such as writing, podcasting, and video production. In the second year, students can choose to focus on PR, scriptwriting, or further develop their audio production skills. In their final year, students will work on a long-term project for a media organisation, putting their learning into practice.
Additionally, the PR modules offer students the chance to join a student-run communications agency. Here, they will gain real-life experience working with actual clients to solve media and communication challenges, helping to prepare them for careers in the media industry.
