Overview

Students in Cambrian College's Motive Power Technician - Service and Management program get hands-on training servicing gas-powered and hybrid vehicles and learn the ropes of shop management in Cambrian's state-of-the-art shop. At Cambrian College courses provide students with pre-apprentice training that can be combined with an optional, paid co-op and will prepare students for career and automotive service technician apprenticeship opportunities. After an introduction to basic work safety and fasteners and hand/pneumatic tools, the courses will be split between hands-on and classroom training in steering suspension and brakes, drivetrains, and engines. As an automotive service technician, students will learn to diagnose and repair complex wiring systems, understand serial data communications, and perform quality repairs. Emissions systems, automatic transmissions, ABS brakes, air conditioning, computer applications, scan tools, lab scopes, and gas analyzers will be explored in depth. Special focus will be placed on electrical and electronic components throughout the program.
