Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) - Main
The Engineering Design Technology program will provide students with both a theoretical and practical education that will serve as the foundation for a career as an engineering designer.
This program could be a great fit for those who:
• Demonstrate a high attention to detail • Have good math and physics skills • Enjoy working with computers • Enjoy working in an office environment
Engineering Design Technology presents a broad spectrum of engineering content, primarily focused on the fundamental principles of engineering design and computer applications common to a variety of engineering disciplines. Hands-on, industry-relevant skills Through a number of classes specifically tailored to meet industry requirements, students will develop strong physics and mathematical skills to apply toward creating engineering drawings and 3D models using the latest computer-aided design and drafting software. Students will also have the opportunity to learn technical drafting concepts and skills using traditional drafting concepts and methods. Although manual drafting is no longer practiced in industry, these technical drafting concepts and standards are important in the learning process. Once students have worked through this introductory phase, they then become adept at using computers for both design and drafting, utilizing major CADD software packages. International Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Pathway International students looking to study in Canada can take advantage of a 4-year degree pathway that allows them to earn a technology diploma and a Bachelor of Technology in Management (BTech) degree from NAIT. This pathway also makes them eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), enabling them to stay in Canada and work after graduation. Students will start with an in-demand technology diploma before continuing into the BTech degree program. Bachelor of Technology The BTech program builds upon students' technology diplomas, helping them develop skills in leadership, problem solving, business strategy, and risk management. The combination of their technology diploma and BTech degree will open up more employment and career opportunities in various industries and roles, such as project management, operations management, and sustainability management.
