Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Computer Engineering (Extended) (H6GP)
University of Greenwich (Medway Campus)
What you will study
Students can prepare for a range of engineering careers with the Computer Engineering (Extended), BEng Hons degree. Entry points are lower than for the standard BEng and an extra year will boost study skills. As well as learning about programming theory, learners will gain practical experience in developing applications for computing platforms and hardware. They'll have the opportunity to create applications for robots, embedded and real-time systems, and other innovative information and communications technology.
Students will be taught by an experienced team whose expertise and knowledge closely reflects the modules of this course. The team includes senior academics, professional practitioners with industry experience, lab technicians, and external experts who provide guest lectures on some modules. The PhD researchers also offer lab support, which undergraduate students find very useful.
Seminars and workshops enable students to discuss and develop their understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups. They'll also be able to meet their personal tutor. Learners go to a range of companies and organizations of varying sizes for their placements, including large multi-national firms, government agencies, the NHS and small to medium sized companies engaged in research, analytical services and manufacturing. Previous students have worked in Eon, Dyson, ADEY, PS Analytical and E-liquids, GSK and NHS hospitals. Some have also taken IAESTE (British Council) placements to Brazil, Dubai and Poland.
With the Computer Engineering (Extended), BEng Hons degree, learners will gain the knowledge and skills required for professional roles within computing, engineering and related specialist fields. For example, they could work as a professional engineer in a variety of organizations or start their own business. They could also pursue postgraduate study.
