4-Term Pathway - Foundation Certificate for Business, Law and Social Sciences - Continue to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - English Language and Linguistics

If students have finished high school but don’t meet the entry requirements for university, a Foundation Certificate can help them gain entry to an undergraduate degree.

Studying these two subjects will provide students with a clear understanding of how English is structured, has evolved and is still evolving. They'll explore how languages are learned, taught and used in practice. Explore the core areas of language and linguistics and develop specialist knowledge in areas such as discourse analysis, second language acquisition, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, onomastics, rhetoric and creative writing.

Work with academic staff on projects involving local communities, including Sounds Bristolian and Place Names research. Apply knowledge practically in a wide range of fields, including forensic linguistics, speech and language therapy, learning and teaching a second language, and analyzing spoken discourse.
