What you will study

The BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering programme offers an excellent route into a diverse and well-rewarded profession that plays a vital role in shaping modern society, from roads and airports to clean water and energy infrastructure. The course develops the knowledge and skills sought by employers across key areas such as structures, fluids, geology, soil mechanics, surveying and materials, with a strong emphasis on applying theory through real-life projects, case studies, site visits and field trips.

Accredited by leading professional institutions on behalf of the Engineering Council, the degree fully meets the academic requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer.

Teaching is delivered by experienced civil engineering practitioners, and learning is enriched through engagement with practical projects, including community-focused initiatives such as Down to Earth Derby’s ‘New Commons’, a nature-based regeneration project developed in collaboration with partners including the Eden Project.
