Master of Science - Forensic Psychology

Forensic Psychologists operate as scientist-practitioners across a range of domains, including criminal investigation, policing, the court system, probation, the criminal and civil justice systems, secure clinical settings, offender management, and private practice.

Students will develop a critical academic understanding of the various factors that may contribute to different forms of offending. The course encourages reflection on the role and limitations of causal explanations for offending in the development of offender treatments and services. It prepares graduates to work in environments where forensic psychology is applied, equipping them with essential skills such as interdisciplinary collaboration, risk assessment for violence, understanding vulnerability and ethics, professional development, and report writing. Graduates will leave with a strong understanding of the legal system, the role of forensic psychologists, and how psychological theory and research can inform legal processes.

The course covers current and relevant topics within Forensic Psychology, including Vulnerability and Neurodiversity in the Criminal Justice System, Sexual and Violent Crime, Investigative Psychology, and Ethical Practice. It also offers opportunities for practical application through a Forensic Volunteering placement and the Forensic Data Analysis module, which utilizes real-world data to prepare students for work as trainee Forensic Psychologists and for applying their learning to real-life cases and scenarios.
