Program Description Foundation Studies Program (Fast Track) - Physical Science (X0G:5) (0100809):

The Foundation Studies program is a direct academic pathway to first-year undergraduate degree study, or an equivalent. The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study.

To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses.

International First Year Diploma - Science (X1D:1) (0100205):

The double degree allows students to deepen their knowledge and expertise within two separate study areas. This means students can choose from University of Tasmania’s range of exciting, diverse courses and they can embark on a journey as unique as they are.

The University of Tasmania’s science degree provides students with a foundation of core skills in science, analysis, and rational thinking. They have options to focus their studies in one or more scientific disciplines and learn the methods to apply their skills and knowledge to the practical needs of industry, business, and government in both scientific and non-scientific roles.

The BICT is a specialist degree with both a theoretical and practical focus. It develops technological understanding and skills that are in high demand world-wide, plus builds project management and other business soft-skills that make students an ICT professional.

Environmental problems are also social problems. Students can explore people-environment interactions through the Geography and Environments major to develop specialist expertise across the physical, spatial and social sciences and the integrated knowledge needed to solve environmental challenges locally and globally. Geography is uniquely placed within the BSc to offer insights into the complex social-ecological systems that need to be navigated to achieve these solutions, including understanding regulatory frameworks, ethics in science, and the critical evaluation and synthesis of information.

BSc students with a major in Geography and Environment have career prospects in land management, policy and planning, sustainability planning, environmental regulation and assessment, in both the public and private sector. Students will develop skills for 21st century jobs that require flexibility, innovative thinking and lifelong learning. Students will also expand their knowledge of environments and peoples, and the ways they interact from the local to the global.

The University of Tasmania offers a wide range of experiences on campus, as well as in Tasmania’s amazing natural environments only minutes from campus - experiences that are simply not available at other universities in Australia. Field experiences begin in week 3 of first year and continue through students studies.
