Master of Arts - Global Media and Communications

Regent's University London

What you will study

Media and communications production, consumption, and influence have become intrinsically linked with personal lives, communities, nations, and beyond. The rise of social media and user-generated content has empowered everyone with a voice. AI is revolutionizing content creation and personalization, while virtual and augmented reality offer immersive experiences that extend beyond entertainment. However, concerns regarding data security, privacy, ethics, and sustainability must be addressed.

On this dynamic course, students will explore the opportunities and challenges within these sectors—examining both theory and new insights, techniques, and technologies. They will be exposed to industries beyond PR and advertising, investigating how news agencies, event planners, filmmakers, journalists, influencers, and charities tell stories and reach new audiences—learning how to apply these methods across countries and cultures.

By examining current issues around the world, students will discover the social and political influence of media storytelling and how those in power utilize it to their advantage to gain traction and shape perceptions. They will develop skills to monitor and analyze reactions, conduct interviews, perform observations, predict future trends, and implement creative strategies to engage audiences while maintaining truthful storytelling across all platforms.

Opportunities will also be available for students to work collaboratively with real businesses and brands seeking new ideas and talent. Recent examples include students pitching campaign ideas to influencers, production companies, and charities such as Football for Peace—conducting research, developing comprehensive campaign plans, and applying their skills to real-world scenarios. As a result, many graduates have gone on to successful careers.

To commence the final term, students will participate in an immersive residential retreat designed for reflection, networking with peers and professors, and goal refinement. Upon return, they will undertake their final project—be it a placement, dissertation, or creative endeavor (such as a strategy, digital consultancy, campaign, film, or website)—which can serve as part of their portfolio for future employment opportunities.

Regardless of their academic background, students will broaden their skillset, expand their network, acquire new skills, and gain exposure to various sectors before choosing their specialization.

Graduates will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in one of the world’s most innovative and dynamic industries. They will be equipped to think creatively and work across sectors—from media research to consultancy—and will join alumni who hold positions in international publications, PR firms, social media, research, and marketing.
