Overview
Midwestern State University (MSU Texas) offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Pre-licensure). The Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) program is designed for students who want to enter the profession of nursing and who do not hold an RN license. MSU Texas admit highly-qualified students in the spring and fall semesters through a competitive selection process. Graduates of this program are prepared to take the licensure examination (NCLEX) to become a registered nurse. The undergraduate curriculum includes general education courses which provide a foundation for understanding physiological, psychosocial, political and economic factors that may affect a person’s health status. Nursing courses prepare the BSN graduate to provide holistic nursing care in a variety of complex environments in order to enhance the optimal health of individuals, families, groups, and communities. Students must first be admitted to MSU Texas. Note that this does not guarantee admission to the BSN program. To be admitted to the BSN, students must complete the nursing prerequisite courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. A grade of “C” or higher is required on all science courses.). Students may apply to the program while enrolled in these courses, but they must be completed before beginning. Nursing prerequisites are: • Anatomy & Physiology I and II • Rhetoric and Composition I and II • College Level Math • Intro to Sociology • Chemistry • General Psychology • Microbiology • Developmental Psychology
The preparation of nurses is rigorous and admission to the undergraduate program is highly competitive. Since the number of applicants usually exceeds the number of students allowed for admission, all applicants will be awarded points for ranking purposes. MSU Texas Wilson School of Nursing Admissions Committee will evaluate all applications and rank them according to the criteria point values listed below. Applicants will be accepted into the program as ranked for admission and according to the number of clinical positions available. For applicants with a tie score, the higher science GPA will receive the higher ranking position.
