4-Term Pathway - Pre-Master's in Social Sciences - Continue to Master of Science - International Logistics and Supply Chain Management

If students hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of Essex. Course length is determined mainly by students' English language level (UKVI IELTS score).

Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If their course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.

Master of Science - International Logistics and Supply Chain Management

This course trains students in applying management techniques to solve business problems arising from supply chains, including areas such as transportation, warehousing and inventory and supplier relations. It has been designed with industry input in response to sector skills gaps and is located close to London’s major port, providing potential opportunities for site visits and placements.

Study areas may include: • global supply chain management, planning and control • international operations management • business analytics, applied statistics and forecasting • environmentally-friendly logistics • logistics planning and control • business strategy and strategic management • innovation management.

In the summer, students undertake an applied research project about a real-world organisation or issue.

This course draws upon Essex Business School’s strengths in big data and analytics to help students be a more effective logistics manager.

Students develop their practical skills in data analysis so they can better understand markets, consumers and competitors to improve business performance. Computer generated simulations expose students to a range of business scenarios, helping them to understand how managers and entrepreneurs use analytics to solve logistics problems.

Another unique feature of this course is a focus on green logistics, addressing employer needs for greater training in this area.

With organisations coming under increasing pressure to manage issues around waste, recycling, transportation and raw materials, many businesses lack qualified staff who can ensure compliance with environmental law. Essex can equip students with the knowledge and skills to design and operate efficient and sustainable supply chains and logistics networks to give them a distinct career advantage.
