Overview

The FIU Global First Year Program combines credit-bearing courses from the first year of a student’s degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to their academic and language level, and cultural experiences, all aimed at ensuring their future success. The Global First Year experience goes beyond academic, language, and cultural growth, offering the Career Accelerator program to help students gain valuable professional skills for a successful career.

The Career Accelerator program, designed specifically for international students, includes four semesters of professional development and career guidance, skills-based training, opportunities for exclusive internships, unique workshops, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural group work. The School of Accounting at FIU prepares students for success in the accounting industry by providing current knowledge and emphasizing the skills needed for success in various sectors and pursuing advanced degrees. The Bachelor of Accounting program curriculum covers technical competencies and professional capabilities, including business communication skills.

Graduates with an accounting degree have a wide range of career options, as every business, agency, and nonprofit organization requires professional accountants. Public accountants perform accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting tasks, with many advancing their careers by earning the CPA designation. Management accountants analyze financial information for internal use, while government accountants focus on the public sector. Internal auditors identify fund mismanagement, fraud, and waste, while forensic accountants use investigative techniques to identify activities and collaborate with law enforcement.

To pursue a career in public accounting, passing the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination is necessary, requiring 30 credit hours beyond the Bachelor of Accounting degree.
