4-Term Pathway - Foundation Certificate for Business, Law and Social Sciences - Continue to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Hispanic Studies and Criminology (Honours Select 50:50)

Students can split their degree between the study of Spanish language and cultures and another subject of their choice. Studying Hispanic Studies at 50% will enable students to become highly proficient in writing, reading, speaking and listening to Spanish with the option of studying a second Iberian language (Basque, Catalan or Portuguese) from Year Two. Students will spend one year in a Spanish-speaking country (or if relevant, Basque or Catalan speaking region or Portuguese speaking country) as an assistant in a school, as a student at a university or on a work placement. Studying Criminology as 50% of the degree gives students a thorough understanding of the role of criminology in society. Year One introduces students to criminology and serves as a foundation for the second and third years. By Year Three, students will be able to study from a range of areas that include: Crimes of the powerful; Community and public involvement in crime and criminal justice; The risk society; Criminal victimization; Youth crime, youth justice and social control. In Year Three students may wish to study for their dissertation if they have completed the research methods modules. Alternatively, students can take the applied social research module and carry out a piece of research commissioned by a local agency.
