Bachelor of Science - Bioinformatics - Computing and Statistics

The University of Central Missouri's Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics is the first and only bachelor’s degree program at a Missouri public institution of higher education. This innovative interdisciplinary program will prepare students to provide technical support for researchers in medicine, agriculture, and other biological fields.

With an emphasis on computing and statistics courses, this major will give students the background to use technology to analyze and visualize large data sets, such as data from genomic studies of patients or population-based epidemiology.

In UCM's Bioinformatics program, students will acquire knowledge and skills needed to help researchers solve complex problems in medicine, agriculture, and biology through a study of combination of computer science, biology, chemistry, and statistics.

• Computing and statistics courses will give the students the background to use technology to analyze and visualize large data sets, such as data from genomic studies of patients or population-based epidemiology. • Biology and chemistry courses will improve the student’s ability to understand the context of the problem being studied and communicate with the primary investigators to extract meaningful information from a raw data.
