Overview

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a two-semester program designed specifically for students who are ready to succeed in immersive English-speaking classrooms, but who also want the benefit of English-language and student support to help them thrive. The program curriculum offers a balance of university-wide and AAP-exclusive courses, with English-language course supplements that equip students with the practical, subject-specific vocabulary and skills they need to excel in their coursework.

Academic Accelerator students at UDayton Global will receive: • The right amount of support when they need it. • A seat in credit-bearing courses, so students can earn a full freshman year’s worth of credits while taking courses tailored to their needs as an international student. This will help students achieve their academic and career goals. • English-language instruction designed around students' social and academic needs. • Integrated and cohorted courses, so students will be in some classes with U.S. students and others with their designated UDayton Global cohort.

The computer science department offers two distinct undergraduate degree programs: computer science and computer information systems. Both programs lead to a Bachelor of Science, and both share a core program of study in the fundamentals of software design and development. The programs differ in the mathematics and natural sciences requirements, with the computer information systems program having fewer requirements in both of these areas. This allows the computer information systems major to include an approved minor in their program of study, providing the opportunity to focus study on a particular area of application. As a computer science major, students will study data structures, software design, programming languages, and computer elements and architecture. To be prepared for the computer science curriculum, students should have strong analytical skills and be ready to take calculus and nonremedial English in their first year.

The curriculum includes at least one course exploring the social and ethical implications of computing in a modern, digital world. Also included are a variety of courses in the humanities, the arts, and the social and natural sciences. These, combined with the computer science requirements, provide students with the broad-based education necessary for success in a diverse, global workplace.
