History (BA)
Studying History is exciting and rewarding; it encourages students to appreciate the surprising variety of human experience. And at the same time, it sharpens their skills of analysis, argument and communication, helping them to become someone others rely on for persuasive arguments and sound judgement.
Right from the start, students will choose their own path through the thought-provoking landscapes, from Magna Carta to modern China, exploring topics as diverse as the Byzantine Empire, Tudor queenship, or international terrorism in the twentieth century.
In the second and final years, students will have the opportunity to develop their own interests along with chances to do sustained independent research. At the same time, there are chances to explore and try new things all the way to the final term.
Studying in the shadow of Windsor Castle and Runnymede allows students to meet history face-to-face, with access to the unique archives and collections held in the libraries and the unparalleled libraries, museums, and historic sites of London not far away. Royal Holloway's friendly system of small-group teaching offers the chance for them to get to know and work with leading researchers and world experts in their subject from the first weeks of the degree.
On this course: • Learn in small teaching groups from the start. • Develop analytical and communication skills. • Choose from a huge range of modules at other University of London colleges. • Become involved in world-leading research centers, such as the Holocaust Research Institute. • Graduate destinations include museum curators, law and marketing.
