Master of Music - Composition

The MMus Composition at the University of West London gives students excellent opportunities to develop advanced skills in composition, orchestration and production, enabling them to strengthen and refine their artistic voice and expand their musical and dramatic vocabulary.

Across their studies, students will take part in studio-based projects, workshops with professional composers and hands-on experience in orchestration and audio production, providing extensive experience to support their artistic development and versatility across concert music, theatre, visual media and more.

Alongside practical development, the course offers opportunities to broaden scholarly knowledge through score analysis, conducting and recording techniques, culminating in a major supervised Masters project that reflects each student’s creative journey.

Teaching is delivered by highly experienced, award-winning staff who guide students through learning and assessment while encouraging artistic experimentation within established traditions.

Students will also benefit from the Composers’ Workshop programme, offering opportunities to collaborate with leading composers, musicians and academics, alongside seminars and workshops delivered by visiting artists presenting new work and discussing student compositions.
