Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - English and Film (QW13)

University of West London (UWL)

What you will study

The BA (Hons) English and Film at the University of West London combines a critical appreciation of literature with applied skills in a creative specialism.

By studying classic and contemporary literary texts alongside digital production techniques of audiovisual media, students will learn how to apply both knowledge areas in pursuit of a creative vision.

Supported by highly experienced lecturers, students will develop the ability to apply their creative talents to digital moving image production.

On the practical elements of the course, students will learn skills including industrial contexts, forms and genres, and postproduction.

The theory-based components will help students develop transferable skills for a range of media roles, including critical thinking, analytical methods, structuring complex arguments, communicating ideas clearly, and developing advanced conceptual and communication skills. Students will also build enterprise, digital literacy and IT awareness through film production.

These capabilities are in high demand among employers in the creative industries, who seek graduates with a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Students will also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement, allowing them to build industry connections and apply their learning in real-world settings.
