Bachelor of Music (Honours) - Music Performance (WJ88)

The BMus (Hons) Music Performance at the University of West London helps students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to become professional classical musicians at the highest level.

Students will be coached through individual lessons on their main instrument or vocal study in classical styles, while also having opportunities to cross over genres and styles and develop flexible musicianship skills through exploring new techniques.

Throughout their studies, students will be given opportunities to perform both as soloists and as ensemble musicians. They will take part in a wide range of ensembles, including the Musical Theatre Showband, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, Opera Class, Language and Text Class, New Ground Ensemble, as well as Conducting and Keyboard Skills.

Alongside practical elements, students will have the opportunity to study music history and music management, and to develop analytical and critical abilities that enhance career prospects in the professional performance world.

With the London College of Music’s busy programme of weekly concerts, performances, workshops and masterclasses, students will be immersed in a vibrant cultural and musical environment and will have opportunities to network and collaborate with peers across composition, music management, musical theatre, popular music and music technology.

Performance is central to the course, with many opportunities to give concerts both within the University and in the wider community. In the final stages of the course, students can pursue independent project work, showcase their talents as performers, or undertake an educational placement.

Assessment includes coursework, practical assessment and portfolio submission. Students can also choose to be examined for the ALCM and LLCM performance diplomas during the course, gaining professional accreditation alongside their degree.
