If students hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of Essex. Course length is determined mainly by students' English language level (UKVI IELTS score).
Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If their course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.
Master of Science - Entrepreneurship and Innovation The University of Essex MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation is taught at Essex Business School. It uses innovative and interactive teaching, such as group working and applied projects, to develop students' practical business knowledge and employability skills. Essex hones students' entrepreneurial spirits, so they can have the capabilities and confidence to launch their own venture, manage their family business or introduce innovative ideas to improve performance at existing organisations.
This course explores the entrepreneurial issues and challenges high on the agendas of businesses, governments, policy-makers, researchers, educators and wider communities across the world. Students explore topics including: • economic, sociological, psychological and managerial theories of enterprise creation theories and practices of entrepreneurship; • entrepreneurship skills; • strategic innovation management; • new venture development; • how to prepare a business plan

The current Masters students joined from more than 40 countries and Essex's international team of academics helps students gain a global understanding of business in established and developing markets, so they can have the best foundation for their careers.
Guest lectures give students access to practitioners and policymakers, who share real-world experiences to prepare students to tackle the challenges facing entrepreneurs and SMEs today. Instead of a dissertation, students can opt to complete a comprehensive business plan for their new venture or an existing business, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable feedback on their ideas from academics and industry practitioners.
A Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation will ensure students have a clear grasp of real-world entrepreneurial challenges and how innovative approaches can be applied to existing organisations to improve performance - giving students an excellent foundation for their future careers.
This curriculum aims to prepare students for careers as entrepreneurs, owner-managers or policymakers. Core modules such as Theories and Practice of Entrepreneurship, Innovation Management, and Research Methods will equip students with a critical understanding of the range of economic, sociological, psychological and managerial theories of enterprise creation and development and how they apply in practice, together with an understanding of innovation at an operational and strategic level.
Many of Essex's graduates go on to set up their own businesses or work for government and other policy-making institutions or community based organisations. Recent graduate startups include international business incubator 0100Ventures and entrepreneurship website SlovakSTARTUP.
