Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Creative Writing and Publishing
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Creative Writing and Publishing with Foundation Year explores the art, craft, and processes of writing fiction and non-fiction across books, magazines, and digital content. The programme provides insight into the workings of today’s publishing industry and develops the skills required to bring written work—whether one’s own or others’—to market. It prepares students for careers in the literary world, including writing and roles across publishing such as editorial, design, production, sales, marketing, and publicity.
The degree offers flexibility through a wide range of optional modules, allowing students to tailor their studies to align with their interests and career aspirations. With the UK market for written information and creative content playing a significant cultural, political, and economic role, the importance of carefully curated and diverse content is heightened in today’s fast-changing society, where audiences are constantly exposed to misinformation and information overload.
The programme addresses the evolving digital publishing landscape, providing a comprehensive understanding of every stage of the publishing process—from idea development, writing, editing, and typesetting to design, marketing, and selling of written work. This prepares graduates to enter a resilient, creative, and globally connected industry that continues to grow year on year.
