University Transfer Studies - Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Collaboration with University of Alberta

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) at RDP prepares the student to become a Registered Nurse (RN) through a balance of classroom learning, simulation and real-world clinical experiences.

Throughout the program, student will strengthen their clinical judgement, communication skills and professional identity as a nurse, learning how to think critically, respond to complex situations, and provide patient-centered care across diverse healthcare settings and life stages.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is offered as a collaborative degree with the University of Alberta, allowing students to complete their studies at Red Deer Polytechnic while earning a University of Alberta credential.

• Years 1-3: Students are registered with and attend classes at Red Deer Polytechnic, completing required nursing, clinical and elective coursework. • Year 3 application: During their third year, they apply for admission to fourth year through the University of Alberta.• Block transfer: The University of Alberta accepts the completed first three years of the program as a block transfer, provided all required third-year courses are completed with a minimum 2.00 GPA.

• Year 4: The student will continue their fourth year of studies at Red Deer Polytechnic while registered with the University of Alberta.

After completing the program, the student will graduate from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN). They will be invited to take part in Red Deer Polytechnic and University of Alberta convocation ceremonies alongside their classmates and faculty.
