Overview

The MSc Financial Technology prepares students for this rapidly evolving sector. Designed for graduates and working professionals interested in fintech and financial services, the course develops skills in advanced programming, financial modelling, data analytics and risk management.

Students apply their learning to real-world challenges facing the financial sector and global markets. The course explores how technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are reshaping banking, investment, regulation and risk management. Alongside technical and analytical expertise, students develop an understanding of ethical innovation, regulation and the wider impact of fintech on society.

The course also provides hands-on experience with industry-standard technologies, including the Bloomberg Suite. Through the Bloomberg Terminal platform, students can access live and historical market data, business news and analytical tools used by financial institutions worldwide. This practical experience helps develop skills in market analysis, investment research, financial modelling and risk analysis, while providing a stronger understanding of how financial data is applied across the industry.

The UK is a major global fintech market, while Scotland is recognised as one of Europe’s growing fintech hubs, supported by a strong network of financial institutions, start-ups and technology companies. Glasgow has established strengths in asset management, investment operations, insurance and business services, alongside a growing fintech sector. Its position as a leading financial centre provides students with opportunities to engage with a dynamic business and financial ecosystem.

Industry engagement is integrated throughout the course. Guest lectures, networking events and collaborative activities provide opportunities to connect with professionals across the financial services, fintech and technology sectors in the UK and internationally. Students can also benefit from connections with organisations such as FinTech Scotland, The Data Lab and the Chartered Banker Institute (CBI).
